Last year I hand painted robins in a birdhouse on my Christmas cake, this year I’ve made cute robins and a birdhouse Christmas cake :)

The birdhouse is a rich fruit cake covered with Massa Ticino, I made the Christmas lights with cold porcelain and the robins I modelled using Cake Dutchess modelling paste. I tried to get a distressed wood effect on the house using wafer/rice paper, a technique I read about in an article from Cake International magazine. I couldn’t get the paper to crack like they did but I still like the effect.

I think I’ll have to try and drag myself away from robins for next years Christmas cake :D
