Cracked Mirror!

Cracked Mirror!
Cracked Mirror! Cracked Mirror! Cracked Mirror!

Made for the sweet collaboration led by Sidney Galpern called “Simi Torch Team: The Collaboration”. The link to all the wonderful pieces can be found at https://www.facebook.com/simicollab/?fref=ts
My cracked mirror piece was made by cutting a piece of cardboard, covering it with aluminum foil, creating a dam around the edges, then pouring clear, melted Isomalt and letting it set hard. When the Isomalt was cold and hard, I used the back of a screwdriver (wrapped in wax paper to prevent contact with the Isomalt) to hit the mirror surface and got those long cracks, and then I used a hammer (wrapped in wax paper to prevent contact with the Isomalt) to hit the mirror surface and got those collective circular cracks. Some watered-down dark edible gel color was brushed over the cracks for that dirty, old look. Then, I removed the dam and used white Satin Ice fondant and a mold to create the decorative border. This was then painted with edible gel paint and allowed to dry. VOILA! Easy and quick. I hope you like it!
Thank you Sidney for inviting me xx
