I’m so honored to have participated in this collaboration with so many talented artists!
My piece represents the golden grandeur of the Summer. When I think of summer, I think of the sun and sun worshipers. The train of thought led me to the Sun God and then the Sun King, Louis XIV, who adorned the Palace of Versailles with the sun to symbolize power and beauty. My cake is modeled after the newly restored Golden Gate that is at the entrance of the palace courtyard.
The cake is covered in blue fondant to represent the sky backdrop for the gold gate. I used gumpaste to model the embellishments and hand painted it in Rolkem supergold.
