I have always wanted to try my hand at sugar ‘paper’ quilling, so when I came across paper quill artist, Katherine Usowa’s piece entitled SUMMER, I knew I wanted to recreate a sugar version on cake. Ms Usowa was kind enough to give me permission to use her work (https://www.instagram.com/usokei/).
This piece is the perfect depiction of what summer means to me; the sun, the sea, a palm tree, tropical fruit, a cold drink, flipflops, etc. I love the vibrant colours and details of quilling.
The tools and materials I used to recreate the piece are: Satin Ice gumpaste, a paper quill tool, a Dresden tool, a ribbon wheel cutter and piping gel.
Thank you Isabel Tamargo for including me in your wonderful collaboration.
