This cake was a bit of a risk. It was for a regular customer, who gets at least 6 cakes from me a year – so I suppose she trusts me, but she asked for a ballerina cake similar to a mermaid cake I had done her earlier in the year. Only that was for a much younger child, pastels and pearls and I thought I wanted to take this cake a step further! It is my birthday next week so I treated my self to the Katy Sue head and arm moulds, Royal Bakery’s Ballet Shoe Tutorial and Avalon Cake’s Face Detailing tutorial. But I adapted them all. I made the facial features deeper with a dresden, I changed the ballet shoe so it was more realistic compared to the simpler version in the tutorial, and when painting the ballerina’s face I went for more of a less realistic look so she looked more like a doll. As you can see i made the name from the shoe ribbon, i hope Ruby likes it! I hope you like it too!
