My inspiration for this cake was none other than Mother Earth herself in all her glory. I found an amazing photo by Desiree Delgado which I immediately fell in love with and wanted to put it into cake form. I decided to go with a 2 tier iced in buttercream handpainted with different shades of green. I hand painted Mother Earth on fondant and added fondant hair, flowers, and leaves, and made a 3D Earth. I then covered the cake in ivy and different types of fondant leaves. My piece represents the need for us to care for our Mother Earth and let her be. Our Earth was created beautiful and green (and blue) and we need to work hard to keep it that way.
As we celebrate Earth Day, Fri April 22nd, the members of UNSA wanted to share with you their hopes and dreams, feelings, and concerns about the issues facing our planet, its people and animals. This international collaboration is also a fundraiser for National Geographic which is a non profit committed to conservation and education of our emerging leaders.
