This is one of my entries for Cake International Birmingham in 2015. I was rather silly (and tired) by the time I finished my entries I didn’t get good/light/natural photos of the cakes. So today (before I throw them out) I FINALLY took some pictures outside in natural light this afternoon. I regret not taking photos at the time I made them as the cakes all sustained a bit of damage in the warm hall and then while being transported home. The cakes are all also now disintergrating under the icing and changing the shape of the cakes.

Sculpted Novelty Cake Category GOLD award. I made this fairy house/tree stump. I worked for about 3 weeks on this and this was my favourite cake and still is. My acorns were the favourite part as I managed to paint them just right with little lines on. The grass/board was crushed biscuits mixed with green food colour and lemon juice and I pressed them on too fondant on the board for extra texture. You will see the little panels on the house are now bulging due to the cake collapsing underneath, they were neat and straight on entry smile emoticon …. I guess now it just looks more delapidated and ‘real’ the top of the stump and the roof tiles are all hand painted as well as the fungi. I dusted all the little toadstools and fruits and windows with some brown dust to give it a dirty(ish) look. I use a tiny bit of red piping gel for the little heart above the door. There were shells in the side of the stump with clear piping gel to look like a little waterfall/water feature leading down to the little pond but they broke due to weight and heat in the hall.
