This was a piece I made for Cake Expo in Melbourne last year. I made Groot 1.0 as a birthday cake earlier that year for my husband’s 40th and thought that I would recreate it for the competition. His exterior is hand carved fondant with multiple layers of airbrushing and dry powdered colour, plus crushed rice bubbles coloured green to give that moss effect. I won first place in the novelty category! Loved the look on people’s faces as they walked by – lots bent down to look at him face to face as if he would blink and say “I am Groot!”
