Christmas is my favourite time of the year and Christmas themed cakes are my favourite to make. So when I was asked by the editor of Cake Craft Guide’s Party Cakes Magazine to come up with a design and tutorial for their holiday issue that was similar in nature to my red cardinal cake from last year, I was so stoked to get in the Christmas spirit early and give it a go, even if it was still the beginning of July.

I wanted to maintain some of the same elements from that cake in this design since they really loved the non-traditional, dramatic feel, but I wanted also to mix in some new techniques not tried before. I decided to use colours and bows similar to the red cardinal cake but add in a new swirl technique that was inspired by Vincent Van Gogh’s painting by the same name and a never done before pop up wafer paper tree.

I was so surprised and honoured when I found out they chose it for the cover of Issue 25!
