This is my first year as a Sugar Skull artist and I have learned so much about the traditions of the Mexican festival Dia De Los Muertos (Day of the Dead). As well as celebrating the lives of their family members and friends who have passed away they also celebrate the animals who have passed.
This information was the inspiration for my piece. I found lots of wonderful photo inspiration online but was captivated by several images by the folk artist Pristine Cartera Turkus.
I love the backgrounds in these pieces of art and all the vibrant colours and flowers and wanted to incorporate that into my design. Using basic techniques of sponging and applique with a little handpainting the effect was easy to achieve. Thanks for looking and dont forget to check out the other awesome creations in this collaboration.
