I’m new member and very excited to share my first trial an error cake – Clash of Clans!
Just like most of the stay home mommies, i have great interest in collecting creative & beautiful cake designs, also wish to bake for my love ones… Then, i was asked by my soon to be 4yo gal to build a Frozen themed birthday cake next month. I’m too afraid to disappoint her if I din able to make it after reading n watching so ma y videos & tutorials online, and broaden my narrow sights that building a cake is far more complicated than i bake a chocolate brownie, moist banana cake…etc! I was too naive!
Thus, i decided to bake a small cake 6" for hubby birthdat tis month to test n practice what i have watched n read from the internet. The themed will be COC cause other than his family i think this game will be 2nd in his priority lol!
Since it is my first time baking a cake, i learnt:
- how to bake a cake without a dome in the middle
- slicing, storing, ‘filing a cake & depanned from wickedgoodie’
- make & coloured my own fondant, gumpaste.
Most Challenging:
- ganache a cake -- pain in the asssssss! I wasted so much time n no idea when to stop. Do NOT know how everyone can do it so prefectly, my ganache is mixed with some frosting that r pushed out from the sides of my cake,
- try to sculpture the King barbarian figurine → almost gave up cos i hv no idea how to start n make it 3D instead 2D (flat at the back). I use 50%gumpaste + 50%sugarpaste to build my figurine, thinking it might b more pliable n afraid the gumpaste will dry too fast for a beginner like me, Sigh.. SHOULDNT, cos my figurine takes almost 12 days to dry. When i taking pictures of the figurine, it only 60-70% dry/hard. Besides, i do not know how to control the size, keep building it till so big and cant be place on top of my cake as it is jus too heavy! I should have using gumpaste to wrap on some foil paper to create the body instead using all gumpaste, cos is very heavy. Well.. Really lots of flaws!
Anyway, hubby is very happy n proud of my creation although it looks a bit rush to complete this.
