Hi! Made this one at the weekend for my niece, who wanted either her dog, a guitar, or a minion. He’s such a grand little character I thought I’d have a go, as no one was paying me (in case I messed it up!)
I’ve not done a dog before, I thought it would be hard getting the proportions right, but I think the folds made it easier, plus I didn’t texture the fur which would have made it more difficult I think?
After carving it into a basic head and snout, I sort of squiged the fondant on with my fingers and used the pointy tool to shape it a bit.
I’m still a bit nervous of my airbrush but I find it much quicker than dusting with colours or painting and I only had a few hours before the party. I used black first on his nose/muzzle, then a wee bit in the folds to shade. A bit of brown, then over again with some super white powder mixed with vodka. Added a stripey party hat in her favourite colours, and plopped him onto the ( still soft and damp) board I had quickly covered in fondant and sprayed black.
Then I needed a bath as myself ,and the kitchen were all covered in greeny-grey dust! The letters were a mad rush job as I got the boys ready so quite wonky…
He went down very well with the birthday girl who wanted to eat his nose. And I’m quite pleased with him although he’s far from perfect.
I might try again when I have more time ( who am I kidding!)
