We had, again, the honor to be invited to participate in this worldwide collaboration : The Sugar Fraternity – Game On. Around thirty cake designers of any countries, only guys, were requested to collaborate around a theme: the video games. A theme rather speaking for geeks as us:) being the representing French only ones, and in view of the general level of participants, we get pressure to make it. We chose a video game who particularly mean a lot to us, called Kingdom Hearts. Indeed, this improbable video game, mixing the universe of Disney (which Jonathan is a fan) and the universe of Final Fantasy (which Sébastien is a fan) that it monopolized us during hundreds of hours of game. The weapon of the central figure, is also a major symbol for us, because it is the Keyblade which Sébastien wear around the neck on our logo and in his real life:) that’s why we could not choose another one.

Knowing the amazing work of the others cake designers, often with magnificent modelling or with delirious sculptured cakes, it was necessary to us to make something different, while demonstrating our own know-how and our techniques. We began to think about the size of the cake, which we wanted original and sober. We stopped our choice on the square shape. The idea was to propose a triptych with the three main characters of the game: Sora, Donald and Goofy. We separated each of the characters on his own cake by varying the sizes of squares to create a dynamic to the set. The originality of these cakes was to settle them on their edge. We even baptized them " Standing Cakes ". This choice offered us a rather interesting visual surface to run, such painter’s blank painting. It’s moreover from this report that the idea of the treatment of the design, came to us. We cut on a black sugar paste silhouette of each of our heroes. Then we worked these black silhouettes by bringing them several textures. We also selected the official colors of these characters, with some red for Sora, with the green for Dingo and with the blue for Donald, by using edible metallic paints, to create interesting reflections. To bring more contrast, we silvered the weapons of each heroes. We stuck silhouettes on the white space, where even there we let speak our artistic sense with projection of paints and inks, strewed here and there. For the sides of squares, we have airbrushed, with pearlecent powders, the main color of each characters, to keep a brilliant and homogeneous aspect. Finally, we realized several logos of the video game, a heart with in it center a lock, which we settled on the main face, as well as on every facet of edges. We arranged our triptych by moving closer to three squares from each other, and slightly moved, to give to the final composition an additional dynamism.

We really want to Thanks Sharon Spradley from Curiaussiety Custom Cakes to organised this new collab.
