I was asked to make a wedding cake for two ex-colleagues. The brief was a cake with a lace panel and a small posy, but I also had to make the vintage topper which was on the bride’s grandmother’s wedding cake in 1948 look like it was meant to be on this cake.
I redesigned the lace panel to reflect the pattern on the base of the topper and also made little filler flowers based on the one’s on the topper. First time using silver leaf to create, well, the silver leaves!
I can’t say it was plain sailing – the fondant was a different type to the one I usually use and was awful, so I ended up having to patch elephant skin and cracks and my first experience piping with a 0 nozzle was almost enough to make me give up as it blocked constantly.
However, I was pleased with the overall result and the bride and groom were delighted!
It’s beautiful!
Thank you, Goreti :-)
