This cake was made for my son-in-laws 40th. The cake is chocolate and vanilla chequered and covered in chocolate fondant. The gravity cider is not fondant as I find it looked so unrealistic so I experimented with a few thing and the most successful was clear mints!!

super job!
The gravity cider pouring out of the can is superb. Did you microwave the mints?
What a cool cake !!

Wonderfull!!!
I have to make a cider/beer cake too, can you explain how to make the cider, it looks so realistic!!!

Hi everyone , Thank you for your comments. After a lot of experimenting with different products of which none looked realistic until I used clear mints. I melted the mints in the microwave then added some ivory colouring. I used a clear straw and painted the melted mints onto the straw pulling the brush away from the straw to create the ‘splashes’. Since doing this cake I now melt the mints on a tray in the oven with NO water and I have found that it doesn’t go sticky at all. Hope this helps…happy baking.
