Hand painted Hibiscus wedding cake

Hand painted Hibiscus wedding cake

I was dreaming of sunnier climes when I decided on the design for this cake!! We had just returned from a holiday abroad where the hotel gardens were full of these gorgeous big blooms! I think I needed a break from dusky vintage colours too! This was my first attempt at larger scale painting on a cake- it took a whole day but I really enjoyed it and vowed I would take up painting as a hobby….some chance!!
I traced some images from the web/ books and simplified them where necessary, then scribed them onto the sugarpaste. I used cocoa butter and edible petal dust and the colours were really vibrant except maybe for the pink. The rest of the cake was plain white with sharp edges as I felt there was enough going on with the flowers. I was happy with the overall effect but I’m sure a true artist would pick up on the errors in shading etc. I cant wait to get time to paint another just for me and just for fun!!
