Thanjavur Bommai- Indian Bobblehead
When the little girls mom contacted me, I knew this cake was going to be unique, it was a little girls birthday cake-okay BUT the theme was so exciting.She sent me a pic of a terracotta thanjavur bommai. A tanjore doll is a type of traditional Indian bobblehead toy made of terracotta material. The only brief she gave was, we want bright happy colors, very Indian, and the bobblehead with the face slightly modified to look like a little girls’
So when I started researching more on these tanjore dolls, I got reminded of these tanjore paintings which are super intricate, and I decided to include peacocks with scrolls and swirls in gold, paisley and keep the bright colors of these terracotta bobbleheads as my cake canvas. I cannot express the joy of making this cake, everything turned out to be so unique, not a typical little girls birthday cake, but a rather amazing one!
