My version of a semi-naked cake with gumpaste succulents. Buttermilk cake with vanilla bean buttercream – it was my first semi-naked cake. I charged the same as I would for a regular buttercream cake and am glad I did. It took a lot longer to get straight sides and edges than it usually takes me because I had to make sure some of the cake was left showing. The extra time off-set the smaller batch of buttercream! I love the sculptural feeling of this cake and succulents are now my favorite gumpaste “flower.” It was for an elegant baby shower but I could see this design in a rustic wedding setting also!
