Here is another dummy wedding cake I did for the wedding show this past Sunday. For some reason when the icing I made for dummy cakes, dried, it looks a little uneven on the sides of this cake only.. but I did frost it smooth to begin with.
4-tier 6-8-12-16 frosted in ivory buttercream. Single BC dots placed on cake. I let them dry and crust over, so I could flatten with my finger to prevent any uneven surfaces, since I needed to paint air brush gold color on dots, I wanted them even.
I used a fine tip brush and dipped in gold pearlescent airbrush paint, and brushed over each dot. I had to go over them again, but not all…
the flowers are gum paste briar rose, I hand painted in corals and pinks I mixed colors.. *This picture makes them look more hot pink, but I also painted edges of petals in gold pearlescent airbrush paint.
I piped beaded boarders around bakes of cake.
I know cake artists used different icings on their dummy cakes, but I like mine to look like I would decorate in BC finish.
*If you want to do the same, I will tell you how I made it….
You don’t want as much fat in it, such as butter, so I substitute veg. shortening, about 1/2 amount you would use in fat in regular BC. I also use a drop or two of yellow liquid gel food color, for the creamy color.
Then I add a larger amount of xxx sugar and water.. as much as you need to get it the texture you want to spread on cake and décor…
Due to large amount of sugar, it will crust over faster. It takes quite a bit of water, due to the amount of sugar ratio…
**I will try to get better pics of the cake since it is a dummy and I have it on display here at the shop~ lighting at the show was low.

These dots fantastic on the cake — when I first saw these I thought these were confetti — but you have put so much effort doing these in buttercream — and they look so neat!!
