This is the last birthday cake of the year for me, just the Christmas cakes left! It was made for a lovely girl whose younger sister is in my daughter’s class at school. Mariella specifically asked for the cake to include her fish and her ipad. I decided not to over complicate the fish and keep it simple. The ipad request was not too much trouble and easy to include. I kept the colours pink and soft and tried to make the top bedcover look like those satin ones that look lovely on the beds in the shops (but are way too expensive that you can’t justify the expense, do you know the ones I mean? Lol). Anyway, I used a cake lace mat to emboss a pattern onto regular fondant and then just brushed pearl dust over it to give a sheen. It’s hard to see it on the pictures, but it worked well. Everything on this cake is edible apart from the ribbon at the end of the bed and the table leg.
So, that’s it from me for this year. Thank you to everyone for all their lovely comments, especially Julie who always makes me smile. It’s panto season now in our house, as my two eldest daughters are dancing at the opera house in Cinderella. It’s all tears at the moment (and that’s just me doing all the running around). Opening night is the 23rd, which is also my birthday. I hope that you all have a wonderful Christmas with family and friends and look forward to reading more of your lovely comments in 2015. Much love to you all. Sam. Xxx

Oh Sam, this is just gorgeous in every way and yes, I know the satin bed covers that you are talking about and I can see how you have made yours beautifully sheen-y!
How exciting for your daughters to be in panto – you must be so proud!
