This is one of the birthday cakes I made for my daughter. My daughter took this cake into her nursery on her birthday to share with her friends.
Emily and I have a favourite book to read, written by the fabulous Julia Donaldson (illustrated by Lydia Monks) called ‘The Singing Mermaid’. My daughter loves Mermaids and if she can’t be a mermaid when she is older she will just have to be a princess – her words!! So I wanted to make a cake with the book in mind.
This is the first figure that I used wire armature inside to support the tail, so that it looked slightly raised above the cake. I took inspiration from the amazing Rhu @ Pimp my Cake with Mama Rhu. I also used non toxic food safe glitter as the books have glitter on every page.
I love, love, love this cake. I love the mermaid, the painted letters and the funny fish and sea creatures around the cake. The only thing missing was the seagull but I ran out of time – I re-did the tail about 4 times till I was happy.
I hope you like.
Angela.
