Henry VIII Cake

I made this as a gift for Claire who is leaving the court tomorrow to work in the City. She is Henry obsessed so the theme was a no-brainer.

All the while I was making him I had that song ’I’m ‘enery the eighth I am’ as an earworm (remember, the one Patrick Swayze sang to Whooopie Goldberg in Ghost, just to annoy her?).

I wanted to have a pretty texture on the board and the border of the cake so I had a big think – I don’t have any impression mats. This is what I used:

I have never been able to make a successful butterfly with it but it makes a pretty pattern!! :-D

Julia the gem butterfly cutter is a pain i found that rolling the fondant or gum paste trough pasta machine and then cutting and then pulling all the little pieces away …BUT I LOVE the cake so gorgeous the modeling is amazing as always

Amazing modelling!!! I agree with Becky I would never have taught I would be calling Henry VIII cute, but here it is: He is soooo cute!
