I must say I think it is one of the nicest cakes I have made to date. It was 18" tall + the 4 " topper.
The bottom tier was vanilla sponge filled with vanilla buttercream. The cake was covered with red fondant and decorated with gold edible lace. The second tier was red velvet sponge filled with vanilla buttercream and covered with fondant and then covered with 23crt. edible gold leaf. The third tier was a lemon sponge filled with lemon buttercream.. The cake was covered with red fondant and decorated with a diamond pattern and gold sugar dragees. The top tier was a coffee sponge filled with coffee buttercream. The cake was covered with red fondant and decorated with red and gold ribbon. The Mr & Mrs topper was supplied by the bride’s sister. Gold and red roses and hydrangeas were added to the top and side of the cake as decoration.
I consolidated a few of the designs that I use on other cakes into one. The cake had to be sensational and glitzi without being gairish. My bride’s sister, Shamima, wanted a red and gold showstopper that would be a talking point of the wedding.
