Special because even though they are separated by distance, their love for each other knows no boundaries.

They say love is the best thing that can happen to anyone. It is that special ingredient which brings great happiness to one’s life. The first year of marriage is very special for every couple. The feeling is that of bringing down stars from the heaven for their beloved spouse. And come their first birthday / anniversary post marriage, they do everything to make it memorable for each other.

Such is the sweet story of a newly married couple for whom I made this cake. She lives away from her husband because she works in another city. She had planned to fly home to meet him and celebrate his birthday. Thus, when she called to order, she just gave me this brief, “I want a cake that he always remembers.”

With this thought in mind, and total creative freedom given by my client, I sat down to finalize the design. With the above mentioned brief as my mantra, I delved deep in my reservoir of thoughts and plucked out this design (courtesy google :P). His fondness for travel and planes led me to finalize the theme of the cake which was an inspiration from one of the works of Elite Cake Designs.

Next, I started looking for a romantic color theme and got hugely inspired from the palettes of ‘Design Seeds’. Making each and every part of this cake was a joyous experience. After each part was made, my excitement to see the entire cake grew.

On the last day, I assembled all the parts and did the final touches. I just loved the tiny details like the little flower on the bride’s hair and the hand painted initials of the couple in silver which added the customized look.

Creativity can totally disconnect one from the real world and its worries and it transports us to a dreamland where everything seems so complete and bright. Adding to it, is the feeling of great satisfaction when the masterpiece is complete.

Finally, when the client saw the cake specially made for her husband, she was ecstatic. The joy in her eyes spoke volumes and she told me that they would always remember this cake with great fondness. In that moment, I found my satisfaction; more than that, I had found bliss.

A very special cake, my fondest baby and an awesome experience in itself.
