As a registered baker for the Baking A Smile organisation, I was contacted a few weeks a go and asked if I would make a birthday cake for a little boy who has Hypoplastic left heart syndrome, I was told that David is 6 and loves Scooby Doo. I had the pleasure to meet Davids mum when she collected the cake. I have to say, she was one of the most beautiful, smiley, Jolly ladies I have ever had the pleasure to meet. She thanked me so many times for the cake, telling me how it was so much more than she had expected. I asked how David was, and she told me that over the years he has had 3 major heart surgeries, but he is now in failure. She saw the look on my face and smiled at me and said “It is ok, we have had so much more time than we had ever hoped to have with him”.
I feel truly humbled to have been able to bring a little joy to this family, with something as simple as cake x
