The way I learned to make cake pops was to sub the oil in recipe, with apple sauce. This makes the cake balls not fall apart, retain their shape, and not be greasy.

I’ve also tried an enhanced recipe using Duncan Hines boxed cake chocolate mix and have had excellent results. King Arthur Flour Chocolate mix also works great.
The enhanced cake recipe can be found anywhere, specifically, Cake Central. And the extended cake recipe also works great. Also found easily online.
