I use galvanized metal wire. It is very hard and extremely difficult to shape, but it is cheaper than aluminium, which I know is the best armature wire for sculpting.

Thanks for the reply, Albena. Yes, the wire I use is also galvanized. I started using it because I had a roll already on hand, when I started to make figures. It works very well, but is so hard to bend. I do need to try the aluminum.
