2nd time Beginner Hobbyist Cake Decorator. I sort of did cakes over 25 years ago when I was a stay at home Mom...using the Wilton Cakes pans shaped like dogs or teenage mutant turtles or so many others, the #2 or #3 tip to outline and then fill in with the stars. There were a couple I did that were round layer cakes with some drop flowers and a few purchased royal icing roses and I was so proud of them. I had no idea about levelling cakes, getting a smooth icing finish or anything like that but, I had a whole lot of fun doing it.
Now, my kids are grown and have their own kids and I wanted to make special cakes for the grandchildren so, I started dabbling in making cakes all over again. This time though I am having so much MORE fun probably because I have a new secret weapon....the internet. There are so many places to pick up tips and tricks, video tutorials and sites such a this to learn, get help and be creative...oh.. yes, I have NOT used one of the Wilton shaped cakes pans or a star tip to fill it in AND I know how to level a cake. I have done perhaps a dozen cakes since picking up a piping bag again but lately it is becoming an obsession. My favorite things to do...modelling fondant (hello kitty, elmo, butterflies, catterpillars, lady bugs...etc etc) and I am now trying my hand at gumpaste flowers....what a rush!
