Day Job VS Passion

Hi, I am new here. I am trying to find a forum of cake decorators like you all who perhaps can help me with some piece of mind. I have a dilemma that has been bothering me a lot, perhaps any of you can share some thoughts with me. I have a day office job that has an average pay, but because of this, I don’t have much time to focus on my baking passion. I always want to give it a try to devote my time more in creating more cakes, finding clients, and teaching baking classes. I am having dilemma if I should one day resign from this day job or not, but i am afraid what if it doesn’t work out and it will hard for me to get back into the industry. Did any of you felt this way and actually made the big step?
Thank you!

I’m just a hobby baker. Now retired, I use to sell cakes on the side when I worked full time. But, I never did a lot, just occasionally. You would have to start slowly selling your cakes and build up a customer base. See if you can do that first. Are there many cake decorators in your area you would be competing with? You would need a good business plan and think about the cost of registering your cake business. Making cakes and is fun and satisfying. That doesn’t mean it can support you by doing it full time and pay all your bills. Setting up any business takes money, time and patience. Many decorators I know work either full or part time, and do there cakes on evenings and weekends. It’s a big leap and needs much consideration.
