Oh yeah, that is definitely your cake. I wonder if he is going to answer your comment.

He will probably just remove it Goreti!

I’ve just read this and gone to the link.
It’s strange – on FB it says he opened on March 27th 1989, but there’s nothing appearing since this year (at least not for me). And he has 58 likes, so maybe not around for all that long yet?
Trying to pass off someone else’s cake as your own is completely unacceptable.
Hope you manage to get this sorted out.

Did you report the picture? I would. It gives you an option as to why and I think one is that the picture is your property.

Thank you Goreti, I didn’t know you could do that.

Toni, Pennsylvania, https://www.facebook.com/WhiteCraftyCakes

You can by going to options at the bottom of the page. It gives you the option to report/remove tags. When you click on that, you are given options as to why you are reporting it.

I’ve just looked at his face book album and there looks to be pictures taken from lots of famous bakes on there too. I’m sure some are Peggy Porschen and Pretty Witty cakes too. This is just not on.

Hey, did you see his response! I told him I’m not buying it. That is definitely your cake! Funny how the other cakes he has don’t have a watermark but that one has it exactly where you had yours.

Thanks for sticking up for me Goreti! I wouldn’t mind if someone used a picture and said they would be able to duplicate this cake, but don’t say that it is your cake and change the watermark on it!

Toni, Pennsylvania, https://www.facebook.com/WhiteCraftyCakes

I was just about to say what Goreti did. None of his other cakes have that watermark. Just crazy.

Ali, Ventura CA http://www.thesugarlab.net http://www.facebook.com/AlisSugarLab

that’s not a very nice thing to do…taking credit for someone else’s work is disrespectful and it shows that he’s obviously not capable of doing the wrk himself, otherwise he wudnt have to steal anybody’s pictures…..best part is that ur clients knw ur wrk so u dnt have to worry about him. if someone asks him to recreate it he probably wont be able to get it done

Tamika, Barbados, West Indies, http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Ruby-Rose-Cakes/148049358624264

Just wanted to let you know. That I have already found two other cakes he has taken credit for that are not his. Background & angle of cakes are exactly the same. I notified the decorator’s that made them.

If you look at his pictures, you can tell a difference. There are those that I know were done by professionals and then as you go down, the cakes look like a beginner has done them..very bad fondant and buttercream techniques

Thank you so much for your support everyone! It’s so sad that there are a few unscrupulous bakers around, but nice to know how many wonderful, considerate, caring and sharing cake makers I have met here on Cakes Decor!!

That’s awful, I hope it gets sorted for you very soon. It happened to someone else I know and the page of the cake photo thief was completely deleted by facebook. He deserves the same to happen to him for the way he’s behaved. The sad side to social media. The positive side is the amazing support of the incredible cake community.

Nicole --- http://www.facebook.com/thecakeofit

It is so comforting to feel the support of the cake community for a wronged fellow cake decorator. As Nicole said, I hope FB takes the appropriate action and brings his page down. I saw another cake ‘the fairy tale cake’ that I am sure is not his.

Sasi, Sydney Australia, http://cakesbyssn.blogspot.com.au/, https://www.facebook.com/CakesbySasi

I have found out who the owner is for the fairy tale cake and I have posted a message to the cake decorator.

Sasi, Sydney Australia, http://cakesbyssn.blogspot.com.au/, https://www.facebook.com/CakesbySasi

That’s awful Toni! I tried to see your link but it’s not there anymore. I hope it gets sorted for you very soon. xxx

he deleted the picture we all commented on and just posted this one to his timeline

Diane, South Eastern Connecticut, http://www.facebook.com/bellacakesandconfections

I am just in shock of the blatant disrespect this guy is showing! Toni, I will not stop reporting him to facebook until they remove his page.

Diane, South Eastern Connecticut, http://www.facebook.com/bellacakesandconfections

I can’t stand people who do that!!! grrrrrr There’s one here where I live who has the cheek to watermark a Peggy Porschen Cake as one of her own (among others) would you believe that!!!!

Life is too sweet to be bitter

I think his page has been removed. Good enough

They had posted loads from Cotton & Crumbs as well and just covered over the watermark. Luckily the facebook page has been removed but they’re still on the website, so be careful!

Cherry's Cupcakes; Birmingham, UK; www.facebook.com/cherryscupcakes

THAT IS UNBELIEVABLE! We all work so hard to make our cakes look good and there are people like that in there world who are lazy and would rather steal our work and take credit for it, then to do the work themselves. I have tried to see both links posted and they are not available, so it appears that FB has removed his page. Does this guy have a website and if so, does anyone know what it is??

Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/outrageouscakestampabakery

Wow!! I know I’m late on this post but I must say I’m extremely thrilled I decided to join this cake community. The support you all show for one another is Amazing! I’m so grateful…and Toni, just know although it’s a situation no one wants to happen, people stealing pics and taking credit for your work, Your gift and talent for your artistry is Your’s! No one can create the work you do like you. When it comes down to it, if this guy had to own up to creating such works of art for clients he couldn’t produce the work and would in turn deal with a bunch of angry clients to no business (if he really has one) and probably law suits.

I have had the same problems with local decorators! I’m busting my butt to build my portfolio for my business (as we all are whether it’s a hobby or for profit), this particular ‘cake decorator’ not only posted some of my pics as her own but many others-she didn’t even have the sense to add/change any watermarks. She’s even posted cakes from ‘The Cake Blog’!

It’s disgusting! The worst part is her original work is in disposable pans (like the ones you can use for thanksgiving turkeys, the aluminum ones) with pictures taken in her filthy kitchen! I didn’t say anything to her but I did notify the true artists of the work I recognized.

Do you think customers, who for the most part don’t even realize how much work goes into these cakes, are fooled? I see this in my area more and more, sadly the customers will suffer and since word of mouth is so crucial bakers that do this won’t be in business long. I’m rambling a bit, this response isn’t as cohesive as I’d planned…long day!

However, karma is a b****, this particular decorator in my area happened to sign up for a local vendor fair I was already attending as well-once she found out I was going she threw a fit and backed out. None of her pictures have changed (except mine) but it honestly blows my mind!

As if starting out isn’t difficult enough why would someone want to promise a product they can’t execute? I feel such pride and gratitude for every cake I make, and with each one I get better (you all know that feeling, that’s why we have this community) I just don’t understand why someone would get in this business/hobby only to rob themselves of that.

White crafty, your work is fantastic! I’m so sorry you have to deal with this!

I just saw his page, it’s unbelievable! I am always online admiring others work & looking at tutorials, his kids cake kits are pics from Walmart and Krogers, he had pics from the Wilton website, he has a picture of a cake from a magazine from a store I’ve ordered supplies from, and many, many, many pictures of others work that I’ve seen just scouring the web!

That must explain why he’s moved websites and business names three times I’ve seen from the original link. Somehe didn’t even bother changing the watermark! Who does that?!

Thank you Jacqulin & Smckinney07! Most cake artists are truly awesome, but there are a few that are unscrupulous. Everyone on Cakes Decor has been so supportive!

Any photograph you take is protected under the Copyright Act. This site does a pretty good job of explaining things:

I just clicked on the FB page you posted Toni…and it’s gone. Doesn’t exsist. I’m guessing FB team removed it… 😀

Yes, this was posted in the forum over a year ago. It took awhile, but they did remove it.

Hee Hee Toni…I’ve been busy and I was tired….so when I read this post..I thought, odd why are there notations beside people’s names…saying 1 year. Didn’t click that that’s how old this post was!!
Duh!!! 😁 Well good thing is it got resolved didn’t it…..

Wow so sad you had to go through this… There’s a similar post up atm about someone who is putting cakes by others up on their page too, but she leaves the original watermarks on and as far as i can tell hasn’t actually claimed to have made them herself. You’d think fellow cakers would respect the hard work that goes into a cake and not do this :/

I had a message the other day from a fellow caker to say my cake was featured on a page and did I know. When I went to see it was one of these HUGE pages but there was no mention of my page. My watermark was there so I had no real reason to complain, but I feel that if they’re going to showcase work they should link the creator. Thousands of people had liked MY cake and were saying ’you’re so talented’ as if the page owner had made it, made me uncomfortable.

Mel, Yorkshire, http://www.facebook.com/doncastercustomcakery

I saw an “Internet magazine” feature an unwatermarked cake from one of my favourite artists… It’s obvious they’re not claiming they made it but at the same time they didn’t say who did (possibly just copied image from Google search). I posted a comment stating who made the cake. I don’t think anyone was interested of the likers but nobody objected or removed my comment either so at least it’s clear who made the cake.

I have tackled (via email) a couple of people who have used my pics and passed them off as mine. They both claimed that they didn’t know that what they were doing was wrong – one got very upset and ended up making me feel bad (not for long though!!). The other, removed the pic of my cake (converse christening) and replaced it with someone’s else’s copy of it which was really badly made. I despair that some people trying to sell cakes cannot tell the difference between a well made cake and a wreck! I know this a resurrected thread but sadly it is still a concern and I always love to have a moan off!! Hahaha!! :-D xx

Oh my! I linked it and it´s not there anymore! Grrr people is just so mean.
