Hand Painted South African 50th Cake
I was in my element making this rich fruit cake for a South African Friend’s friend who hails from Cape Town, hence the Cape scenes around the cake. a wonderful nostalgic journey for me carrying loads of memories of Africa
The Kind Protea is the national flower of South Africa and I did this from scratch to actual size using photos I took on top of Table Mountain back in 2005, my own design entirely. the leaves I used cutters for. the pink petals are all freeform, no cutters… and the centre took ages to build up.
The flame lilies are the national flower of Zimbabwe and this lady also lived there, so I added these in too. leaves are freehand too,
all the hand painting I did using colour dusts white spirits. the skins too, but did airbrush the undercoat first.
