This cake was specially created for a monthly collaboration ’Let’s do it with Fondbites’.

For this month’s theme ‘Celebration of lights’, I decided to create ‘Fantasia’. The word fantasia encapsulates something that has a free form and often has a free-flowing style. It also points to a thing that is made of a multitude of familiar tunes.

True to the word, the elements of this cake were inspired by a multiple things while having a improvisatory style: bokeh light effect, lotus flower and colourful textured painting. As Diwali is all about the bright and the bling, the main colour chosen for the cake was fuchsia and gold.

The Bottom tier takes inspiration from Moroccan-styled wall texture painting in hues of fuchsia, and accentuated with stencil design in gold.

The Middle tier has an image of Lotus; representing Goddess Dhanlakshmi, whom we honour and celebrate during the Festival of Lights.

The top tier, airbrushed and designed, gives an impression of bokeh. It is inspired by strings of lights that brighten up houses during this festival.

And finally, the topmost element is an isomalt lantern enclosed in a layer of elegant lotus petals, created out of gumpaste, which brings closure to the whole composition and to the theme.
