Big Bird Cake from Mike McCarey class

I took Mike McCarey’s structure class a while back and this is our project for the class. There is a lot of structure here, but other than that it is all cake / modeling chocolate. It had to ride with me in the car for the 2 hour drive home… I can’t believe he made it home one piece!

Can I ask how tall it is…and which parts are modelling choc? I haven’t used that yet, but looking at this I’m thinking I need to start to ;) x

@cakesbyraewyn – He’s a little over 2 feet tall, but he only has about 30-35 servings. Only the head and body are cake – his arms and legs are all modeling chocolate. Eyes, beak, and all 450 individually made feathers are modeling chocolate too. Modeling chocolate is a miracle material in my opinion… once I started using it, it really changed the way I do cakes!

That’s SO cool! I love Mike McCarey’s cakes so I’m totally jealous that you got to take a class with him!
