This cake was a sheet cake two layer covered in fondant and painted with Vodka and food paste to resemble an old wooden garden table. I also made a basket two layer cake using an oval pan. I made all of the elements way in advance in order for them to completely dry. The gloves, seed packets, garden tools, butterfly, and clay pot were all made from a combination of gum paste and fondant. The dirt in the clay pot was Oreo cookies with the center icing removed and run through a food processor to resemble dirt. Once the gloves were done, I dusted them with brown petal dust to also resemble dirt. The seed packages were free hand painted along with the butterfly. The roses on the table were made from gum paste. The lilies in the basket were made using royal icing. The fertilizer box was made using Rice Krispy Cereal treats and then covered in fondant and also decorated in fondant cut outs. The gum paste basket handle broke just as I was putting it into the cake, so I used a regular ribbon to disguise the break. At this point I had no time to make a gum paste bow. All of the filler flowers in the basket are either gum paste or royal icing. The birthday card was a last minute touch that I made from fondant the night before it was due. Thank you for taking a look.

Thank you everyone for your kind words! I just joined this site 3 days ago and am still learning how to navigate the site, so bear with me!

Thank you Jan. The girl and her husband who asked me to make it for her mom is very special to me, so I wanted it to be very special. It was traveling all across Iowa from Council Bluffs to Des Moines for the birthday party. We were all worried that it wouldn’t make it in one piece. It did!!
