re: Pricing Cakes & getting told it's to expensive.. Sheesh!

Surprisingly enough, I had the same issue tonight! Direct response regarding my quote – .“Seriously not value for money for me! I can create the same thing for half the price as a on professional. My deserts for 100 people don’t cost this much at a pretty up marketplace.”

I wanted to scream! I only charge between $3.50 and $4.50 per slice and she wanted two tiers, iced in white fondant, nothing else and no decoration but for 100 serves. I make all cakes from scratch and have to cover all kitchen and ingredient costs. Not to mention the time it takes to shop, cook, fill and cover.

Most of my client’s tell me I undercharge and I have compared my work to others in the area and know my quality is high and is my pride in my work. Very very frustrating. So my response was polite, but if you think you can make it cheaper and nicer, go for it! I operate my business on the side and don’t do it to make millions, but enough to cover the cost and a very modest profit.

I wonder why people waste the time of businesses when they obviously have no intention of going through with it.
