1) It’s been going on for years on end, Cakers are never paid their worth. I feel that most of us do it just for the joy of doing it really.
2) Only one per week as I teach most of the time.
3) It has become easier for me to charge for my work as most of it is very specialized.
4) I have carved out a niche for myself in being able to provide something most cake decorators aren’t able. Having an art background has blessed me with the ability to put that art into cake. I am therefore able to weed out regular “I want a blue cake with polka dots” clients and now am able to focus on the higher end clients that are purchasing Art Work. It’s a completely different mentality.
5) I have been in business for over 10 years doing cake
6) #1 key thing to building my business: Has been having the luxury to say No, that is not what I want to do. Not everyone is fortunate enough to be able to do that. I am now able to choose which projects I want to take on, meaning I get to stay passionate about each chosen project. That passion leads to a better product and my clients see the quality they get and don’t mind paying top dollar. I spent my entire life doing what everyone else wanted, and have made the conscious choice to now do what I want. My bread and butter are my classes and the artistry in caking is my passion and the icing on my cake.
