My kids are in their 20’s but I have always let them choose the theme of their party. Then I would get coordinating cake and decorations.
When kids are too young to have any idea about what they want then the parents choose.
But I will not tolerate the child changing their mind 10 times. Pick a theme, show me a photo if you want, then leave me to it.
I don’t think you are grumpy at all. As we get older we have less patience for parents who let their children dictate and run their lives. I will not be run or dictated to by someones child about a cake.
