How did she do that?!

I’m a bit of a hoarder but you may have guessed that from my previous blog posts!

My tablet is full of notes and screen shots of hints and tips that I come across online, things that I have to try from using bicarb of soda to clean my cookie cutters to giving my son a password so that no one can randomly collect him that he isn’t expecting without it…

Possibly the most helpful cake related tip I have come across recently is from a fabulous cake decorator whom I had the privilege to be taught by last year to make a stiletto shoe and that is the lovely Raewyn Read

Her top tip for turning buttercream from that sallow looking yellowy colour to a gorgeous ‘how did she do that?’ white is utterly brilliant and so easy that you HAVE to try it (even if you don’t need white buttercream!)

One of the things I love about these blogs and forums is how much information one picks up from so many helpful decorators, and how much these hints and tips help. Raewyn is such a sweetheart and a good friend of mine, she stayed with me here in UK last Novemver and we worked together on a group project for Cakes International. We swapped ideas and thoughts and it was just so special to work alongside this wonderful special person and I still have her doggie exhibit next to mine in the guest room
I remeber her tip on using a touch of lilac to take the yellow out of the buttercream, works like a charm. Another tip she gave me was using lemon essence instead of vodka for painting.. It dries quicker with no stickiness, and it sure smells good! Orange essence too :)
It’s great to share knowledge and feels great when you’ve made someone else’s project that much easier because of it.

Love Raewyn and if you want to learn from one of the funniest and best then Rae is your gal for sure. She is so much fun and an absolute doll. My only regret is we did not have more time for all the fun things I had planned. Learning from others is the best thing about this wonderful cake community and we should all be so honored to get to share what we know with each other.

She was so calm and supportive when I did my class even when the place she was teaching hadn’t supplied the right products, nothing fazed Her x
