He used a screw but that was to complicated for me, lol. I put the dowel through the cake and put the can up to the height I wanted it, then cut the dowel. Then I put the can on the dowel where it would meet the can and where I wanted it to bend. At first I thought I could cut the dowel half way though and bend it, but the wood was too dry. It might work with a cutting from a live tree so the wood is green. Anyway since it didn’t work I just put my two pieces together with package tape with a little space between the two ends. After I covered the dowel with frosting I put the can back on. I covered the dowel with frosting up to where it would bend, just a little over where it went into the can. Hope this helps.
