re: Army Helmet

Can’t find the tutorial I’d written up before (grrrr), but it was pretty easy. I used three colours of fondant and then mixed half of each of them together to make the fourth, base colour. They were dark green, light green and brown. I ended up with the real army green for my base.

Start with a flattened ball of your base colour. Now use fat sausages of the other colours, create a tiny camouflage pattern on top. It’s completely random, but you want the colours to intersect in places (see the front of the helmet, below the red cross badge). You want to have the pattern continue all over the base colour, but have gaps showing through. Then you just roll out, taking cake to roll in lots of different directions so that you preserve the camouflage pattern.

I hope that makes sense and I’m sure that’s exactly how you thought of doing it! I’ve seen a tutorial where someone intersected actual pieces of cut out fondant, but I think that would make me explode! Good luck.
