I confess to knowing very little about the AFL as in New Zealand Rugby takes centre stage. So I had a little bit of homework to do when I was asked to make these helmets for an avid AFL fan.
So here are my helmets for the San Francisco 49ers and the other the Philadelphia Eagles.
As with all cakes I had learning curves for these and something which took me 1.5 hours on one helmet only took 35 minutes on the other after I stumbled on a better easier way of doing the grill, typical. Then I dismantled the grill on the first helmet and remade it :)
The eagles wings are all handcut and shaded for the Eagles helmet but the 49ers logo was an edible image.
Dan the Birthday boy loved his helmets and refuses to cut one of them, and said the cake was the hit of the party.
