My friend Mike lives here in Portland, Oregon. His partner Gavin lives in Vancouver, BC. Mike contacted me about creating a cake for their special day. Their theme was “Red, White, & a little less Blue” as Mike intends to move to BC in the near future.

Luckily, it only needed to feed 20 people, so the 6+ hour trip in the car wouldn’t be too hazardous. I’ve travelled 8+ hours by car with a cake before, but this was the first time to send one off this far, when I couldn’t accompany it.

The top tier is a dummy/keepsake tier, with LMF figures of the grooms, and a gumpaste bi-national heart as the backdrop. Details of the figures copy their attire, right down to the colors and patterns of their ties.

The cake is 4 layers of chocolate fudge, filled alternately with dark chocolate ganache w/ caramel, and ganache with toffee crunch. Iced with ganache, and covered with LMF.

It was the hit of the wedding, nearly having more pics taken of it than the happy couple! Thanks for looking :)
