I received an email from a lovely lady asking if I could make a soccer ball and boot cake for a 21st. So I rang her and we had a chat. Turns out she had had a cake wreck for her other son’s 21st so while we have school holiday’s here I agreed to do it and made a mental note that I would have to try and get some of the cutters from Not Just Cakes by Annie so I could do the design on the ball. Well that thought went out the window when my lovely customer brought me the ball and a pair of boots to work with. I don’t think I ever envisaged the ball having the detail it had, but I was up to the challenge.

I painted the colours on the design first and left to dry over night then picked up my paintbrush and set to work the next day to finish the design. A total of 7 hours and a bent paintbrush later and the ball was finished, and I was really happy with the result.

The boot I tried to make all the more authentic by using amber petal dust and sponging it on so it looked like dirt, after all the one I used to work off had dirt on it.

The last photo is the one of the real boot and ball in front of my cake version. And the one with the little board has candles in the shape of soccerballs for his mum to take out later, but so it didn’t detract from the cake.

I had a phone call from Daniel shortly after his Mum returned home with the cake. He said that he was speechless when he first saw it and it was F#@^*n awesome, that really made my day. He said to me “the boot even had dirt on it”. So nice that he noticed and I don’t think he had any intentions of cutting it. That phone call made my day.

Thanks for looking, cakie hugs xx

Really, truly awesome job on the likeness, especially on the ball! Can’t imagine having the patience to get through that. Surprised though that it only took one brush lol. Great cake =D
