A cake to celebrate the sixtieth birthday of a friend (he also happens to be my former boss) whose many interests include that of a metal detectorist.
I had to scale my plans for a 3D cake down when told the cake would be travelling from my little kitchen in Southport to Scotland – a journey of approximately four hours! So instead I studied the celebrants blog and did my best to replicate some of his recent ‘finds’ in sugar paste.
I was pretty pleased with the resulting cake, and it’s not very often I say that about my work! Vanilla sponge with raspberry & white chocolate ganache filling / crumb coat base, lemon sponge with curd and lemon buttercream filling / crumb coat sitting atop.
