This cake was taylor made to support an Alice in Wonderland themed wedding photoshoot. The colours were dirty turquoise blue, red and cream. I wanted to create a cake that relayed a clear romantic message, and because the theme was a classic story (my favourite), I wanted to use language as my medium to bring this message across. I thought of many different parts of the ‘Alice in Wonderland’ story and I thought the scene where the card guards are painting the queens roses red is such a well known scene, I knew that should be the scene to use. The only thing was that this specific scene is a bit naughty and not-so-romantic. I decided to turn it around to mean something good for the potential wedding couple. It comes across as if the couple’s world had no colour before they met and they’ve coloured each other’s worlds. If you take the sentence literally, it hints towards a blushing bride, as you picture the groom making the brides cheeks turn red. It also brings in the typical love colour of red. I covered the cake in white fondant and sprayed with light copper brown airbrush for a vintage effect. The frame and bottom boarder were made with very thinly rolled fondant, pressed out through a paper punch. Rolled white fondant roses were over-sprayed with airbrush to create the saturated painted look, and to allow some running of the red ‘paint’. Various font letter cutters were used for the romantic phrase. Other items in the photos include: Custom made ‘Eat Me’ biscuits, cake pops with heart decal, cupcakes and all stationery was designed by Vintage Wedding Press and can be found here: http://www.etsy.com/shop/VintageWeddingPress.
