I made this graboid cake for my son Logan’s 12th birthday. He has been obsessed with the movie series for a few years now. The graboid is a rkt/modeling chocolate/gumpaste sculpture. I did use wire to help support the beak and also in the tongues. The cake is chocolate and it is filled with caramel buttercream and a salted caramel drizzle. The cake is covered with fondant. The letters, boards, arm, and hat are gumpaste. The hardest part of the cake was sculpting the graboid, but the second hardest was all the painting! I do not own an airbrush, and instead of coloring my fondant, I hand painted it all with paint brushes and food colors. He loved the cake, and refused to eat the graboid – he wants to keep it as long as he can! :)
