Polyphemus dwelt in a cave on an island ("island of the Cyclops") and lived off his sheep, but he was a terrible giant and the fiercest of the Cyclops. He captured Odysseus and his companions in his cave, whom he began to eat one by one, 6 in all until Odysseus blinded him with a burning club and was unable to find him and his remaining companions by rummaging, who escaped hanging from the bellies of his (also gigantic) sheep. After Polyphemus told Odysseus that his father (Poseidon) would heal his eye, Odysseus responded by saying that even he could not heal his eye, which in the Homeric view was an insult to the god. This was avenged by Poseidon many times, with the tempests he reserved for Odysseus and his men during their subsequent wanderings.
For my inspiration I used modelling chocolate to make the sculpture and then I painted with dust colours.
