Moss Cake With Sugar Sheet

Moss Cake With Sugar Sheet

A little 6" dummy cake. I have really given up doing cakes but with the Covid isolation I find myself bored and missing the fun. Doing these dummy cakes seems to keep my mental health alive and well. This is NOT my original design, I saw it somewhere on the internet and now I can’t find it again to credit the original artist. I just loved the design and had to try it myself. Ground cookie crumbs colored with edible color for the moss, a white sugar sheet and gumpaste Snowdrops.

Yay, I found the original artist

Thank you Elli, that was kind of fun. Just threw some baked and cooled cookies into the food processor and ground them fine, then added liquid green food color and whirled them in the processor till the color was even. I brushed the foam dummy with thinned glucose and a wide brush, then pressed the crumbs on. A messy job but it looks like real moss when it’s all on.

It really is beautiful, Shirley! I’ve got to try the sugar sheet. You always inspire me.

So beautiful!

Thanks everyone. I have been fascinated by these sugar sheets and had to try one. Actually the finished sugar reminds me of the old Easter Panorama eggs, just no glucose in them. I also really liked the cookie crumb moss, it looks quite real.

Thank you Bethann. I usually toss my decorated cake dummies after awhile but I liked this one and have kept it on my cake stand shelf.
