This Children’s Classic Books Dreamland Challenge" contemporary version, is the 2nd edition of the challenge featuring literary works for children written from 1900 onwards as a way to rescue children’s reading as a universal treasure for children. Hosted by Carolina Wachter.
The creative challenge was to create a cake inspired by a children’s story or book written in the 20th century. The subject, a character invented by me, must be able to take its place naturally in that history.
My inspiration came from Judith Kerr’s The Tiger Who Came to Tea, first published in 1968. I love this charming little tale of a surprising day when a tiger decides to come for tea with Sophie and her mum, eats all their cakes and goodies, then just as suddenly, leaves. The next day, Sophie and her mum got a big tin of tiger food, just in case he decided to come back again.
My story continues from there… Sophie missed the tiger so much that mummy and daddy got her a little kitten, Ash, for company,. And so Sophie and Ash would sit and wait every day in the hope that the tiger might come back again for tea and Tiger food. And then one day… he did!
