We started this new year with the firm promise of reducing our calorie intake… Oh, we fail so miserably! I made a traditional Uruguayan cake for a gathering with friends. Layers of syrup soaked sponge cake, dulce de leche, one baked meringue disk, sliced peaches and whipped cream as fillings. Covered with whipped cream, with baked meringues (whole and crumbled) and peach slices as decorations… I’ll try to have just bread and water tomorrow!

Oh my goodness!! That looks delicious…and like a lot of work!!! My Uruguayan neighbor comes over three days a week to babysit – I’m going to show her this gorgeous pic!!

Looks positively luscious!!!

Thanks a lot dear ladies for your lovely comments. I wish my guilt would have vanished to properly enjoy my slice…But not… I still feel guilty. And please MerMade, show the cake to your neighbor, I’m pretty sure the cake will inspire lovely memories… It is a tedious cake to make… but worth every bite… not so sure if every calorie!

Oh my, what a luscious feast! This is so beautiful and I am betting, as they say on The Great British Baking Show, worth the calories!
